"Opaserv" LAN worm loves sharing

Antivirus software makers warned on Tuesday that a new worm is spreading across networks by infecting computers that share access to hard drives. Dubbed Opaserv, the worm attacks by copying itself to the main drive of a computer running Microsoft's Windows operating system. Once in place, it attempts to download new instructions from the Web site www.opasoft.com, which has apparently been taken offline. One antivirus vendor reported that a bug in the program may inhibit the worm's spread from computers running Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
