HP opens youth training center in Florida

Hewlett Packard and the Magic Johnson Foundation open a tech training center in Jacksonville for underserved youth.

Hewlett Packard and the Magic Johnson Foundation have opened a technology center in Jacksonville, Fla., that will train youth from underserved communities in computer skills.

Servers, notebooks, printers and digital cameras worth about $80,000 have been deployed at the new center, the company said. The center will provide an after-school program for younger children and those up to 18 years old that involves activities such as tutoring and homework help, recreation, and access to computers. It will provide job development services for adults as well. HP has committed $1.4 million to such centers all over the country over three years.
