Buoyed by the continued strength of the market for networking products, Cabletron Systems (CS) announced that sales and income for its third quarter grew 27 percent over the preceding year.

Net income for the company's fiscal third quarter ending the last day of November grew $15 million, to $69 million, on sales of $359 million. Sales for the first nine months of the company's 1997 fiscal year were just over $1 billion, up 28 percent from the previous year.

"During the past quarter, we've taken steps to ensure a strong future for our company and shareholders in high-growth markets such as switching, frame relay, remote access, and telecommunications," said Robert Levine, Cabletron's CEO and president, in a prepared statement.
