Apple to stream today's event... to its own fan base
With little fanfare, the company said users with its Apple TV set-top box or relatively new Macs, iPads and iPhones can view a live stream of today's event, widely expected to feature the iPad Mini.
Apple will be streaming its iPad Mini event live today -- but only if you're already an Apple user.
The company quietly added a new application to its Apple TV called "Apple Events." Upon clicking that, Apple TV owners find a message, saying they can "tune in at 10 a.m. PT on October 23 to watch this event live."
Note that the live stream won't be for the masses, but rather for those who are equipped with the right Apple products. Per the Apple Events page: "Live streaming video requires Safari 4 or later on Mac OS X v10.6 or later; Safari on iOS 4.2 or later. Streaming via Apple TV requires second- or third-generation Apple TV with software 5.0.2 or later."
In its typical fashion, Apple has stopped short of saying exactly what it'll talk about at the event, deciding only to call it a "Special Event" on the Apple TV.
Rumors abound that Apple will unveil the iPad Mini at today's event. The company could also announce the long-rumored 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display and perhaps a new Mac Mini.
CNET will be there live to cover every last minute, so be sure to come back later and check out what Apple announces.
Tune in to CNET's live coverage of Apple's event. We're starting at 9 a.m. PT.
