Macromedia has released a patch for its Flash Player 7 and all earlier versions running on the Microsoft Windows operating system. The serious vulnerabilities could allow outsiders to run arbitrary code on an affected system, according to a security advisory issued last week by Macromedia.

Macromedia is advising people to upgrade to its Flash Player 8. Security company eEye Digital Security noted the problem in an advisory in late June and followed it up with published details once Macromedia had issued a patch.
