Not into DIY? Amazon is ready to help you install and assemble all the things you buy from its site.
The e-commerce company said Monday it will expand Amazon Home Services -- its hub for hiring plumbers, painters and electricians through its website -- to 20 more metropolitan areas, including Indianapolis, Las Vegas and San Antonio. Amazon launched Home Services in 2015, and has since expanded it to more than 50 metro areas.
Amazon Home Services works as a middleman to link customers with contractors. Amazon makes its money by taking a 10 percent to 20 percent cut from each sale. When a customer buys something from Amazon that needs to be installed or assembled -- say a new shower head or futon -- they can include that service during the checkout process.
"Today, customers can search over 1,200 unique services from pros in over 60 professions - from house cleaning, to lawn work and beyond," said Nish Lathia, general manager of Amazon Home Services in a statement Monday. "The availability of Home Services in more cities means that more customers can quickly find and schedule the help they need around the house heading into the holiday season."
