Apple to sell iWatch in two sizes but not until 2015, says analyst

The iWatch may even come in a gold version, says analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. But it won't be available this year.

Apple's much-rumored iWatch will come in two sizes and different colors, but consumers will have to wait until next year to buy it. At least, that's the forecast from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In a KGI investors note released Thursday and picked up by AppleInsider, Kuo said he believes that Apple will offer an iWatch in two sizes -- one with a 1.3-inch display and a second with a 1.5-inch display. Kuo made the same prediction in April, but added a few tidbits for his latest report.

The smartwatch market is getting increasingly crowded with offerings from Samsung, Sony, LG, and Motorola, among others. Apple has remained a no-show so far, but recent reports claim the company will unveil its own smartwatch with health and fitness-related functions. Though the smartwatch market has yet to truly take off with consumers, an Apple watch that doubles as a health and fitness sensor could lure in more buyers, assuming both the price and features are appealing.

The iWatch may use anywhere from two to four types of material for its case, according to Kuo. One option may even paint the watch gold to coordinate with the gold-colored iPhone 5S. With the health-related features expected to be part of the iWatch, the analyst said he believes a rear sensor to measure your heart rate will be part of the package.

The watch itself would come with 8 gigabytes of storage and 512 megabytes of memory, AppleInsider said, quoting from Kuo's investors note. Finally, eager buyers will likely have to wait for 2015 until the watch hits the market, according to the analyst.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 6 on Tuesday. Will the iWatch also debut at the same time? Kuo believes so. Tune in to CNET's live blog of the event to see if Kuo's predictions come true.
