Jobs named 'personality of the year' at Mobile World Congress

Although Apple isn't participating in the trade show, the media has chosen Steve Jobs as the Mobile Industry Personality of the Year.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs this week was named the Mobile Industry Personality of the Year at the annual Mobile World Congress, held in Barcelona, Spain.

Jobs' award was the only one at the mobile trade show voted on by the media, according to a report on AppleInsider. Awards were given in 19 categories including Mobile Marketing and Advertising, Best Mobile Contribution to Social and Economic Development, the Green Mobile Awards, and Mobile Industry Personality of the Year, among others.

It's not unusual for Jobs to be recognized for his contributions, but it is noteworthy that neither Jobs nor Apple attended the mobile conference.

In the past few years Apple has dropped out of such trade shows as the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), the NAMM music show in Anaheim, and Macworld Expo in San Francisco.

In December, Jobs was named Fortune's CEO of the decade. Two years before that, he was inducted into the California Hall of Fame.
