Cox sees rise in broadband subscribers
Cable operator Cox Communications said its high-speed Internet subscriber base jumped 38 percent from last year, but the company reported mounting losses in its overall business.
For the quarter ending Sept. 30, the Atlanta-based company added 169,290 new broadband subscribers for a total of 1.8 million. That compares with 1.3 million subscribers last year. The company's net loss for the quarter increased to $215.1 million, compared with a loss of $73.1 million a year ago. The company attributed the majority of the loss to debt retirement. Revenue increased 15 percent from last year to $1.5 billion.
