WavePhore is ready to wash onto Internet Explorer's shores with a new version of its content push service WaveTop.

WavePhore, located in Phoenix, released today WaveTop 2.0, a service that provides users with customized news, investment information, programming, weather, and other multimedia programming.

The latest version is designed to integrate with Microsoft's Internet Explorer Web browser and comes with a customizable front page.

The service broadcasts across unused portions of public television member station's signals. It reaches about 85 percent of the United States and is to reach 99 percent by year's end.

It is accessible on PCs that are equipped with a TV tuner board and WaveTop's free software.

The beta version of the service will be available for download from WaveTop's Web site or CD-ROM November 16 at the Fall Comdex trade show. Users of WaveTop Version 1.0 will automatically be upgraded when they log onto the service.

"WaveTop 2.0 represents a major step forward in the evolution of both the service and the technology," said David E. Deeds, WavePhore's chief executive. "The combination of new features and capabilities will expand the consumer acceptance of WaveTop and continue to grow our subscriber base."

In other news, Oracle, as reported last week, released today its newest Internet messaging products designed to run under and support popular email systems like Eudora.
