Watch a politician's musical tie interrupt his speech

There are many who believe that a way of getting admiration -- or cheap laughs -- is to wear something red, green and woolly with reindeer on it at this time of year.
The more inventive, technologically minded types, though, go beyond. Aengus Ó Snodaigh, for example.
He's an Irish politician who prefers, it seems, festive ties. Festive ties that play Christmas music, that is.
They have a little battery and a lot of impact.
Ó Snodaigh was making a speech in the Irish Parliament on Thursday. He was concerned about workers being exposed to asbestos.
His festive tie, though, preferred to expose his fellow politicians to jingling renderings of "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."
Footage released by CNN shows that Ó Snodaigh carried on with his speech as if nothing unusual was occurring. Which is what politicians generally do, once they hear the sound of their own voice.
You'd think, though, that he might have considered that the tie might intone at an inappropriate moment.
It seems that Ó Snodaigh may have given the tie away after his performance. His fellow politician Jim Daly tweeted a picture of himself wearing it.
It's unclear why the tie suddenly started to play, just as it's unclear why Ó Snodaigh wore it to parliament knowing that he'd be making a speech.
Perhaps a silly sweater would have been a better choice after all.
