Wi-Fi infrastructure provider said Monday it's raised $44.5 million in funding, mainly from previous investors including the Intel Communications Fund. It's now raised a total of $67 million, spokeswoman Jane Herzog said.

The funding demonstrates again how wireless networking--and Wi-Fi in particular--continues to be popular with venture capital firms. Vivato makes a "Wi-Fi switch" that creates a wireless zone hosting hundreds of simultaneous users and covering distances suitable to a large building or campus of buildings. With conventional Wi-Fi gear, most networks bog down after more than 20 users sign on.
