ViewCast.com to dump the .com

Dallas-based ViewCast.com, which specializes in Internet and networked video broadcasts, said Wednesday that it filed paperwork to change its name to ViewCast. The company, which says the new name "more accurately reflects...expanded business strategies," becomes the latest to ax the .com from its name as investors sour on e-commerce. LifeMinders, Infospace, Preference Technologies and others shed the .com from their names last year. In 2001, even e-commerce analysts are shying from the once-hot segment, jumping ship to new sectors or glomming onto companies outside of the volatile Internet niche.
