Viber becomes latest messaging app to go dark with total encryption
Privacy hounds find another friend in Viber's app, which now offers end-to-end encryption.
Messaging app maker Viber announced Tuesday that it will provide complete privacy by encrypting all communication. The app will also offer the ability to hide chats and discretely delete messages.
The new privacy capabilities come with the latest version of the company's software. To take advantage of the encryption, users must update their devices with fresh code, the company said on its blog. Earlier this month, the Facebook-owned Whatsapp messaging app added encryption.
