Verticali, U.K. consultancy ink deal

Information-technology boutique Verticali announced a partnership Friday with European consulting firm Almasan. The deal could speed the time required to develop software used at life-sciences companies, ultimately converting scientific discoveries into profits more quickly. San Francisco-based Verticali and London-based Almasan specialize in the health-care industries, but the deal could expand both companies' reach into online health marketing, medicine and research. The deal comes during a flurry of activity between IT and science companies. On Thursday, Sun Microsystems sold a high-end E10000 computer to Oxford GlycoSciences to analyze molecules, while IBM announced a deal to help doctors predict the best treatment for cancer patients based on analysis of their genes.
