The sagging chip market's recovery will be a scant 3 percent in 2002, with an uptick in 2003, according to Gartner. Intel CEO Craig Barrett calls the slump the worst ever to hit the market, but adds that the growth of the Internet just might be the savior. Rambus may get a boost from a new chipset maker, while Sharp jilts Transmeta.
