A new feature from Tinder will get your profile more views.

Tinder

Let's say it's Friday night and you're running out of time to find a date. Swipe-based dating app Tinder might be able to help.

Tinderers in Australia will be able to test out a new paid feature called Tinder Boost, the company said Wednesday. Using a boost will bump the visibility of your profile in the immediate area for 30 minutes. Tinder says you'll get 10 times more profile views, and hopefully more matches.

Users who already pay for premium version Tinder Plus will get one boost a week. Those still on the free version can buy a boost whenever it's needed.

Tinder Boost represents a way for the generally free app to squeeze some money out of its users. There's no price just yet, or timeline for when the feature will see a wider rollout.

We know what you're thinking: This sounds a little like lure modules from Pokemon Go, where players can buy or receive lures to attract Pokemon for a limited time. Sadly, Tinder tells us that wasn't the inspiration. However, when Tinder rolled out its Tinder Social feature for group dates, it let users select "Gotta catch 'em all!" as a status answering the question, "What are you up to?"

Tinder isn't the first dating app to add boosting to its terminology. Bumble, an app where women make the first move and matches expire, offers Bumble Boost. It's a paid feature that lets users instantly match with people who have already swiped right on them (swiping right means you're interested in someone), rematch with expired connections or get an extra 24 hours before a match expires. OKCupid also offers paid boosts that promote your profile in 15-minute bursts.
