Robert Fisher, the chairman of clothing retailer The Gap, is resigning from the board of Sun Microsystems, the server and software company said in a regulatory filing Friday.

Fisher informed Sun on Monday that he won't stand for re-election when his term expires Nov. 2, the filing said. Fisher joined Sun's board in 1995.
