Taiwan exports drop

Technology exports from Taiwan are expected to decline in value this year by 8.4 percent to $37.7 billion--the first such decline in decades--according to the Market Intelligence Center, a market analysis company in Taipei. In the first half of the year, the value of technology exports declined 13 percent to $17.1 billion. Among product categories, notebook exports are expected to decline in value this year by 11 percent to $12 billion, although units will increase by 3 percent. Desktop exports will drop 9.2 percent in value to $7.1 billion, despite a 2.4 percent increase in units.
