Sun, BEA promote Java on x86 servers

Sun Microsystems and BEA Systems on Thursday announced that BEA will create a version of its flagship WebLogic Platform software to run on Sun's Solaris operating system for x86-based chips.

BEA said that by the middle of next year, it will complete an edition of its WebLogic Platform 8.1 for Solaris OS x86 Platform Edition. BEA's WebLogic suite includes Java server software for running Java applications, portals and integration software. BEA currently only has a Solaris version of WebLogic that runs on Sun's Sparc processors. The two companies said the technical agreement will help drive adoption of Java server software running on lower-cost 32-bit servers built on x86 processors.
