Sun announces new Java certification

Sun Microsystems this week announced a new Java certification program that allows software makers to prove that their software complies with the Java standard.

The Java Verification Program allows software makers to put a "Java Verified" logo on their products to show that their software can run on multiple application servers. Application server software, made by the likes of Sun, Oracle, IBM and BEA Systems, is crucial software that companies use to run e-businesses and other Web site operations. The verification program uses Sun's previously announced Application Verification Kit, software that checks a program to make sure it will work on any application server.
