STOCKS TO WATCH: Agency.com, EDS, OpenTV and Scientific-Atlanta

Expect the following technology stocks to be among Friday's most actively traded issues: Agency.com, EDS, OpenTV and Scientific-Atlanta.

  • Agency.com (Nasdaq: ACOM)

    Agency.com should gain ground Friday after easily topping analysts' estimates in its second quarter, earning $3.7 million, or 8 cents a share, on sales of $50.2 million.

    First Call Corp. consensus expected it to earn 2 cents a share in the quarter.

    Agency.com shares closed off 1 1/8 to 21 ahead of the earnings report.

    The $50.2 million in sales represents a 95 percent jump from the year-ago quarter when it lost $1.7 million, or 6 cents a share, on sales of $25.8 million.

  • Electronic Data Systems (NYSE: EDS)

    EDS could be in a bit of trouble Friday after it met analysts' estimates in its second quarter but posted disappointing sales.

    In the quarter, EDS raked in $254.3 million, or 53 cents a share, on sales of $4.6 billion.

    First Call Corp. consensus pegged the computer services firm for a profit of 53 cents a share in the quarter.

    Its shares closed off 5/16 to 40 3/8 ahead of the earnings report.

    The $4.6 billion in sales was basically flat with the first quarter when it posted a profit of 47 cents a share on sales of $4.5 billion.

    EDS shares collapsed earlier this quarter after it warned of weaker-than-expected sales in the quarter.

    Its shares peaked at 76 11/16 in February before slumping to a low of 38 3/8 in June.

  • OpenTV (Nasdaq: OPTV)

    OpenTV should move higher Friday after it posted a smaller-than-expected loss in its second quarter, losing $3.3 million, or 7 cents a share, on sales of $11.3 million.

    First Call Corp. consensus expected it to lose 9 cents a share in the quarter.

    Its shares closed off 7 3/16 to 52 7/8 ahead of the earnings report.

    The $11.3 million in sales represents an 83 percent improvement compared to the year-ago quarter when it lost $1.2 million, or 3 cents a share, on sales of $6.2 million.

    Last quarter, OpenTV posted a smaller-than-expected loss of 5 cents a share.

    Its shares peaked at 245 3/4 in March before sliding all the way to a low of 36 1/4 in May.

  • Scientific-Atlanta (NYSE: SFA)

    Scientific-Atlanta will be active Friday after it easily hurdled the Street estimate in its fourth quarter, raking in $59.1 million, or 35 cents a share, on sales of $552.6 million.

    First Call Corp. consensus expected the maker of digital set-top boxes to earn 27 cents a share in the quarter.

    Its shares closed off 2 7/8 to 74 1/8 ahead of the earnings report.

    The $552.6 million in sales marks a 56 percent improvement from the year-ago quarter when it earned $47.3 million, or 30 cents a share, on sales of $355.2 million.

    For the fiscal year, it earned $155.8 million, or 94 cents a share, on sales of $1.72 billion compared to a profit of $102.3 million, or 65 cents a share, on sales of $1.24 billion in fiscal 1999.
