Google Play has published its most popular download lists for the UK in 2016 and, perhaps unsurprisingly, it's ball-flinging, pidgey-catching game Pokemon Go and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" that proved most popular this year.

Pokemon Go took the top spot for mobile game downloads, followed by Clash Royale and Ultimate Ninja Blazing.

"The Force Awakens" was the most popular film download, edging out "Deadpool" in the UK, although whether these two box office hits are equally enjoyed around the world remains to be seen. Also in the top films list was "The Martian", "Spectre" and "Captain America: Civil War".

Rihanna's "Work" was the most-streamed music track, followed by Calvin Harris' "This Is What You Came For" (featuring Rihanna) -- it's clearly been a good year for Rihanna. Drake, Fifth Harmony and Tinie Tempah all made the top five streamed songs list.

It's no surprise that "Game of Thrones" was the most popular TV show of the year, although "Peppa Pig" also making the top five is perhaps more eyebrow raising.

"The Girl on the Train" by Paula Hawkins was the most popular book download, followed by "One With You" by Sylvia Day and parts one and two of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child".
