Toshiba of Japan introduced a chipset for DVD (digital video disc) players. Made up of 12 LSI chips essential for signal and data processing, the chipset includes a 16-bit CPU, and plays back all four DVD formats (basic single-sided, single-layer; single-sided, dual-layer; double-sided, single-layer; and double-sided, dual-layer, expected in the near future). It's also compatible with standard audio CDs.
