Short Take: Sony photo printer works sans PC
Sony unveiled on Monday the DPP-SV55 Digital Photo Printer, which will be available next month for about $350. No PC is required for the device to print photos at home. The printer combines dye-sublimation technology with high resolution and creates pictures with color that rivals traditional photo prints, according to Sony. Using layers of color dye, the printer creates up to 16.7 million colors. A Sony laminate is applied in either matte or glossy finish during the printing process, protecting photos from color-shift and fading. Pictures produced with the DPP-SV55 have similar permanence to traditional film-based photo processing, the company said.
