Short Take: PC growth slows in Europe, elsewhere

Second-quarter PC shipments in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa this year increased 9.6 percent from the same period last year, according to an International Data Corp. report, compared with double-digit growth in previous years. The research company blames lags in corporate purchases because of the Year 2000 computer bug. Compaq Computer remained the brand leader with 16 percent market share, but growth was strongest for smaller, local suppliers.
