Short Take: Japanese PC shipments fall in 1997

As expected, PC shipments in Japan declined in 1997, falling 2.1 percent to 7.93 million from 8.09 million, according to International Data Corporation (IDC). The drop mostly owes to high prices, which scared away potential buyers. The share of PCs bought by home users also fell, to 26 percent from over 31 percent in 1996. IDC predicts a seven percent rebound in PC shipments this year.
