Short Take: Bay ships Accelar switching hardware

Bay Networks announced shipment of its Accelar 1000 line of switching hardware, a strategic introduction for the rebounding firm. The Accelar line includes support for routing functions, as well as Gigabit Ethernet. The new offerings are largely based on technology Bay acquired last year from start-up Rapid City Communications. Shipment of the devices may offer Bay an edge in the emerging gigabit-speed market, according to industry observers, since Bay is among the first large companies to get its gigabit gear out the door.
