Short Take: AMD promotes chip architect

Advanced Micro Devices today promoted Dirk Meyer to group vice president of its Computation Products Group, which oversees chip development. Meyer lead the team that developed the Athlon processor, the chip largely credited with reversing the company's fortunes, and is widely regarded as one of AMD's key executives by analysts. Meyer will report directly to AMD President Hector Ruiz.
