The SCO Group said Monday that it has named Sandy Gupta as vice president of engineering. In his new role, Gupta will oversee development of all the software company's applications, including its two operating systems, SCO UnixWare and SCO OpenServer.

Gupta has been with Lindon, Utah-based SCO since 1996 and worked previously in its independent software vendor engineering group. In addition to working with SCO partners, including Computer Associates and Oracle, he has contributed to the company's e-commerce and Web services efforts. Before joining SCO, Gupta worked on Unix development teams at U.K.-based ICL. He replaces Wolfgang Bauer, who is retiring after a 45-year career in the computer business.
