Sapient gives U.S. voters a voice on the Net
The services firm helps design a Web site and build an online voting service that will allow American voters to make their views known to their elected representatives, while legislation is being considered.
The Internet services firm today said it has helped design a Web site and build an online voting service for USADemocracy that will allow American voters to make their views known on pending legislation to their elected representatives while the legislation is being considered.
Through its work with Sapient, USADemocracy is now letting U.S. citizens take a more active role in national politics. In addition to offering a free email service through which members voted for specific pieces of major legislation and monitor the voting record of their elected officials, USADemocracy said its members can now inform officers of their thoughts and views on various political issues in real time.
To maintain voting accuracy, USADemocracy said its new Web site USADemocracy.com relies on a verification program that it developed jointly with Sapient. In addition to rejecting multiple votes, the program ensures that subscribers' votes are sent only to their representatives and that representatives only receive voting information from their constituents, both companies said.
"The Internet is significantly helping to break down the communication barriers between the government and its citizens," Sheeroy Desai, a vice president at Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Sapient, said in a statement. "USADemocracy is leveraging the Internet as a political tool to provide the means for citizens to both cast their opinion on major legislation as well as to send those opinions directly to Washington."
