German software maker SAP said Tuesday it has appointed global sales chief Leo Apotheker to its executive board. Apotheker, 49, was also recently assigned to acting chief executive of SAP's North American operations and president of global field operations. The 14-year SAP veteran is the second recent addition to the executive board of SAP in Walldorf, Germany. In April, the business applications company named Shai Agassi, the head of its Silicon Valley development unit, to its board.

SAP, among the largest software companies in the world, makes a broad range of business applications for automating bookkeeping, human resources, manufacturing and customer service.
