Rambus acquires high-speed signaling products

Memory chipmaker Rambus said Friday that it will acquire a portfolio of high-speed signaling products from Velio Communications for integration into its own product line. The deal involves the taking over of all related patents as well as existing licensing business. Velio employees working at its Chapel Hill, N.C., and Milpitas, Calif., locations will have an option to work for Rambus. The all-cash deal, worth $13 million, is likely to be closed by the end of the year.

Rambus intends to mesh the newly acquired signaling products into its RaSer family of interface products, which are used in computing, networking, server and storage applications.
