Visiting the Silicon Valley headquarters of Cisco Systems on Friday, President Bush spoke of the need for the U.S. to put federal money to work promoting new technologies and the country's competitiveness.

The president pointed to one recent technological marvel in particular to buttress his point. No, not a Cisco router that helps speed messages across the Internet. "I'll be plugged into an iPod," Bush said. "A lot of the reason the iPod exists is because of federal research dollars."
