Happy Tuesday, cheeps! I'm on vacation this week, but of course I'm not going to leave a deal vacuum in my absence. You know what they say: Shoppers abhor a vacuum. (Unless they're shopping for, you know, vacuums.)

It's precisely because I'm traveling, and hitting Wi-Fi hotspots pretty much everywhere I go, that today's deal is perfect. For a limited time, StackSocial is offering a lifetime subscription to TigerVPN Lite for just $29.

A VPN, of course, is a virtual private network, a protected "tunnel" through which your Internet doings travel. This keeps your identity private and date secure even when you're connected to public networks. It also affords the benefit of connecting to "home" destinations even when you're far, far away -- like, say, when you want to watch Netflix but you're in another country.

And that's, um, pretty much the extent of my knowledge when it comes to VPNs. But others at CNET are much more learned, like Lexy Savvides, who talks more about VPN hows and whys in her how-to on staying safe on public Wi-Fi.

As for TigerVPN, it normally runs $9 per month -- or $7.50 if you prepay for a year. Needless to say, a lifetime subscription for just $29 is an insanely good deal. Kind of hard to put a value on it, in fact.

OK, but you're probably wondering what's "Lite" about this. Just one thing: Instead of the usual 62 access nodes, you get only 15. But that still covers you in the US, Canada and most of Europe. You also get mobile apps for use on your phones and tablets.

Best of all, your subscription includes unlimited device installations and free updates. The only caveat, if you can call it that: Although your order can be redeemed immediately after purchase, you must do so within 30 days.

If you travel even a little, a VPN is an important tool to keep in your tech arsenal. Pay $29 once and you're good to go -- forever.

Bonus deal: Your turn! Hit the comments and share the best deal you've found today. I know from past experience that Cheapskate readers are at least as eagle-eyed as the Cheapskate himself! (Yeah, I jumped from first-person to third-person. Leave me alone, I'm on vacation.)
