Software makers PeopleSoft (PSFT) and SSA announced new releases of existing client-server products, in separate efforts to enhance performance of their applications, the companies said today.

PeopleSoft introduced enhancements to its flagship human resources management software PeopleSoft HRMS 6, adding applications and enhancing existing ones. The new release, previewed at a Dallas trade show today, includes new pension administration and productivity measuring applications, in a move meant to improve the software and help PeopleSoft's customers respond to workplace changes, the company said.

The new Pension Administration application will cut down on duplication of work by integrating employee communications and retirement calculations with other PeopleSoft HRMS 6 applications, while the new Time & Labor application enables businesses to track the hours and amount of work completed by individual employees. The company also enhanced existing applications to establish variable compensation and help multinational corporations manage their employees throughout the so-called global village.

The Pleasanton, California-based client-server business applications company will roll out the new release in a live video broadcast from London on November 21. The products will be available in December, the company said. Prices start at $100,000 per application.

Also today, SSA said has begun shipping a new release of BPCS version 6.0 client-server software used in manufacturing. The new release, which started shipping last week, includes enhancements to its industrial production and financial applications. The product is currently available for the Informix, Oracle, and IBM's AS/400 server platforms. Versions for AIX and Digital Unix will ship in September and October, SSA said.
