PC-TV aimed at businesses

Gateway introduces new models in its Destination line of big screen PC-TVs specifically for businesses.

Gateway 2000 (GATE) today introduced new models in its Destination line of big screen PC-TVs specifically for businesses.

Gateway 2000 says three new models are being introduced that will find use in commercial and educational settings as well. "We've found that a lot of people want to use the system in a 'war room' setting where people might be at a conference table working on a presentation or sharing information. We're fine-tuning [Destination] to meet their needs," said Stacy Hand, a product marketing manager.

The new models will feature a 31-inch VGA monitor, 166- or 200-MHz Pentium processors with MMX or a 200-MHz Pentium Pro chip, and a minimum of 32MB RAM. A 10BaseT/100Base TX Ethernet network card distinguish the commercial offerings from other Destination models, as does the inclusion of a three-piece speaker set in place of the surround-sound system offered on home models.

On the D5-200 and D6-200 systems, an external Zip drive from Iomega is included for removable storage. Microsoft Office '97 Small Business edition is bundled with the system, and the Professional edition is optional.

Gateway says the systems will range from $2,999 to $3,899 and be available starting Monday.
