Panasonic's FX700 puts full HD in your pocket

The Lumix DMC-FX700 jams a lot of features into an ultracompact body including 1080p movie capture, but it doesn't come cheaply.

Panasonic

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX700 sounds like a camera created at a feature buffet. For starters, you got your bright f2.2, 24mm-equivalent ultrawide-angle lens with a 5x zoom, your 3-inch touch screen, and your 14-megapixel high-speed MOS sensor.

Next, throw in a full HD 1080p movie mode, recording in AVCHD at 30 frames per second at up to 17Mbps. Pair that with a full-resolution burst mode at 10 frames per second for up to 15 shots and a handheld low-light option for reduced blur and noise.

Then add on a stereo mic and top it all off with the company's Intelligent Auto suite of technologies: Power O.I.S. image stabilization, Face Recognition, Face Detection, AF Tracking, Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector, and Intelligent Exposure.

All of that in a body that measures 4.1 inches wide by 2.2 inches high by 1 inch deep and weighs 6.2 ounces with battery and SD, SDHC, or SDXC memory card.

If that sounds appetizing to you, the FX700 will be available late August for $399.95.
