Oracle speeds up clock for government
The firm is launching a new program to quickly get its financial management applications up and running in state and local governments before the year 2000.

program to quickly get its financial management applications up and running
in state and local governments before the clock strikes midnight January 1, 2000.
The fixed-price, fixed-time program consists of Oracle Public Sector Financials software, consulting, education, and support "designed to address the imminent Year 2000 compliance issue and meet the specialized accounting needs for midsized state and local government agencies," Oracle executives said in a statement.
Oracle modeled the program after a similar one for commercial midsize and small businesses. The public sector promotional program is available from January 4 to May 15, 1999. Oracle extended the cut off date for the commercial program to March 31. The last day was to be December 31, 1998.
The fixed price of the government offering is $400,000. The commercial version is available for $300,000. Both are available on Microsoft Windows NT or Unix platforms.
