Database giant Oracle (ORCL) Chairman Larry Ellison and President Raymond Lane will detail the company's electronic commerce strategy to reporters and analysts during a San Francisco briefing October 15, officials confirmed today.

Oracle, which is in the process of making its product line Internet-friendly, will announce partnerships, new products, and a strategic road map for adapting its existing software to the needs of online commerce. The Server Technology group, which handles its core database and Internet initiatives, will also handle the marketing for the new products that result for the strategy.

The company has already made a series of intranet-related announcements. Earlier this week, the company unveiled a Network Computing Architecture, a framework for building intranet applications, and NetSolutions, its software tools for developing Web applications targeted at value-added resellers and independent software developers. NetSolutions can also be used to build e-commerce applications.

It has also disclosed a long list of partners who are writing "cartridges" that will plug into Oracle's Web server and database software.
