"Opaserv" LAN worm loves sharing

Antivirus software makers warned on Tuesday that a new worm is spreading across networks by infecting computers that share access to hard drives. Dubbed Opaserv, the worm attacks by copying itself to the main drive of a computer running Microsoft's Windows operating system. Once in place, it attempts to download new instructions from the Web site, which has apparently been taken offline. One antivirus vendor reported that a bug in the program may inhibit the worm's spread from computers running Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
