Mail Boxes Etc., Juniper ink online banking deal

Starting this fall, customers of the financial institution will be able to deposit their checks free of charge at any of the postal services company's locations.

Juniper Financial is expected to offer online banking services this fall and has tapped Mail Boxes Etc. to provide customers a physical location to conduct transactions.

Under the deal, Juniper customers will be able to deposit their checks free of charge at any Mail Boxes location.

San Diego-based Mail Boxes will process shipping orders for customers and issue them a receipt and tracking number so they can track the deposit online at Juniper's Web site or through a Mail Boxes store. Deposits will be able to be mailed to Wilmington, Del.-based Juniper by the United Parcel Service's (UPS) second-day air or overnight option.

"Up to this point, online banking has been limited in part because it has been difficult to make a deposit, which is a basic step in your banking life," Juniper chief executive Richard Vague said in a statement. "We want to make banking as simple as possible for our customers, so we are looking for creative solutions to fit our customers' needs."
