Las Vegas--At Comdex this morning, officials from Macromedia detailed plans to integrate the company's Shockwave for Director software with Netscape Communications' Navigator 2.0. Now in the test phase, Shockwave will be available when Navigator 2.0 begins shipping next month.

Comprised of Afterburner and the Shockwave player, the Web video display software is aimed at bringing multimedia content to cyberspace.

In late October, the San Francisco, California-based company signed a deal with Sun Microsystems to add support for Java in Director. According to Macromedia officials, Java and Shockwave are aimed at two different audiences: Shockwave is for creative professionals with little programming experience; Java is targeted at programmers and engineers.
