Lycos (LCOS) today reported a widening first-quarter loss as sales and marketing expenses mounted.
The search engine company reported a net loss of $2.8 million, or 20 cents a share, for the quarter ending July 31, compared with a loss of $279,513 or 3 cents a share for the same time a year ago.
Adding to the loss was a rise in sales and marketing costs. Expenses increased more than 25-fold to $3.4 million, compared with $131,518 a year ago.
The company reported revenues of $3.7 million for the quarter, up from $190,041 a year ago. Advertisers on Lycos increased to 200 in October, up from 160 in July.
