Japanese camera production up

Production of digital cameras by Japanese manufacturers increased 72.3 percent in January from a year ago, according to a report from the Japan Camera Industry Association. Production for the month totaled 697,201 units, according to the report, compared with 404,641 in January 2001. Cameras with resolution of 3 megapixels or higher led production, accounting for 294,172 units, compared with 276,855 units for models with resolution between 2 and 3 megapixels and 126,174 for cameras with less than 2 megapixels. The results match analyst predictions that consumers will gravitate toward higher-quality cameras this year.
