Business executives ranked reliability as their greatest concern with information technology systems, according to an IDC survey released Wednesday. Fifty-six percent of business executives surveyed cited security as an issue, and 52 percent put performance among the top three concerns, according to the survey. Those results, in some regards, run counter to IT vendors' view that their customers are primarily seeking faster, better and cheaper performance from their IT investments.

"These concerns are consistent with what IT professionals say they worry about. This suggests that these three aspects of IT weigh heavily on the minds of business and IT executives alike," Nicole Comiskey, research manager at IDC, said in a statement. IDC surveyed 280 business executives between January and February. The survey also found business executives surveyed spend roughly 26 percent of their time on IT business-related issues.
