Intel names Gelsinger CTO

Intel has named Pat Gelsinger chief technology officer. Gelsinger, 40, had been serving as the CTO for the Intel Architecture Group, which oversees the the research behind processors and other PC components that collectively make up about 85 percent of the company's business. As the companywide CTO, Gelsinger will coordinate longer-term research projects that involve various divisions inside the company and oversee a new group called the Corporate Technology Group, which will develop technology standards and specifications.
