Intel, First International Computer settle

Intel and Taiwan-based First International Computer have settled a patent infringement case filed in October 1999. The terms of the settlement are confidential, but an Intel spokesman said the two companies have entered into a limited cross-licensing agreement. The case grew out of a series of legal disputes between Intel and chipmaker Via Technologies, which is owned by the same conglomerate as First International Computer. Although Intel and Via have settled most of their legal differences, Intel continues to press patent claims against Via, alleging that the company is violating Intel's intellectual property when it manufactures chipsets for the Athlon chip from Advanced Micro Devices.
