Intel cuts prices of speediest Celerons
Intel on Sunday cut prices of its four desktop Celeron chips with the top clock speeds in the line. The chips are for low-price desktops. Intel's largest price reduction, 17.5 percent, was for the 1.3GHz Celeron. The chip dropped from $103 to $84. Intel lowered the price on its 1.2GHz Celeron by 11 percent from $89 to $79. Its second-largest cut came on the 1.1GHz, which was reduced by about 13 percent from $79 to $69. Finally, Intel sliced $5, or 7 percent, from the price of its 1GHz Celeron. The chip now lists for $64. The price move was part of a scheduled price reduction, a company representative said. Intel typically uses such moves to adjust pricing on older chips or to make room for new ones.
