Catering to the boom in demand for "enterprise" computing technology, distributor Ingram Micro today announced the formation of a new unit to supply high-end products to resellers and systems integrators.

Ingram said the new unit, called the Enterprise Solutions Group, will supply both custom hardware-and-software packages, along with professional services to resellers.

Ingram said as part of the offering, the company will resell equipment from Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, and Sun Microsystems, along with software from Baan and Computer Associates, and networking hardware from 3Com, Bay Networks, and Cisco.

The company said Phillip D. Ellett, currently executive vice president of Ingram Micro and president of Ingram Micro Europe, will serve as global manager for the new unit.

The Enterprise Solutions Group will include Ingram's existing Open Systems Division, Enterprise Computing Division, Advanced Software Division, and Systems Solution Division.

In related news, Ingram said today it will now distribute enterprise software from Computer Associates, including CA's Unicenter management software, Ingres II database, and Jasmine and Opal tools.
